Auspicious Dawn

A Salutation to the Dawn and Auspicious Beginnings

Look to this day!

For it is life, the very life of life.

In its brief course

Lie all the verities and realities of your existence:

The bliss of growth

The glory of action

The splendour of beauty

For yesterday is but a dream

And tomorrow only a vision

But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness

And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore to this day!

As I studied this picture during the days and weeks of working on it, I imagined being carried back into this time and place.  Researching the word ‘Auspicious’ directed me to the above quote by the author and poet Kalidasa.  His words helped me put into perspective my ideas and feelings as I created this scene.    

Awakening from my sleep at the camp site, I opened the flap of my teepee to behold this majestic morning sky.  As my eyes panned the landscape and looked up into the heavens, my hope is that I would have felt the words of Kalidasa deep within my heart.
